The neon look is not just decoration — it is the source of the game's particular tension. Glowing blocks against a dark starfield make the playfield read fast, which matters because Galaxy Bricks escalates its patterns rather than simply adding more blocks. Later arrangements leave narrow gaps and isolated survivors that can only be reached from a specific angle, so keeping the ball alive stops being enough and choosing where it goes becomes the actual game.
It is instantly playable and slowly demanding. One axis of movement is the whole control scheme, so the first level asks nothing of you; by the time patterns start closing up you are thinking about which column to breach, which power-up is worth crossing the screen for, and how to keep the ball travelling at an angle you can still track. That gap between how simple Galaxy Bricks looks and how deliberate good play has to be is the reason a two-minute try becomes a twenty-minute session.
